The digital twin in the product development

In mechanical engineering, digital twins demonstrate their potential in the design phase by replacing time-consuming and expensive prototypes. Various load scenarios are computertested and the interaction between individual elements is simulated.

Weak points, flaws, and potential energy and material savings are evident early on. At the same time, data-based findings are transmitted along the entire value chain, including product systems. This creates a complete, closed decision-making cycle for continuous optimization.

Digital process twin

for the optimisation of production

The entire value chain - from configuration to delivery to the customer - requires data center services. Without Edge Data Center, an Industry 4.0 production, such as our new facility in Haiger/Germany, could not be realized. Edge Data Centers, in conjunction with enterprise / cloud DCs, enable innovative applications and give the customer the competitive advantage.

The new Rittal plant in Haiger embraces the principles of Industry 4.0. The company has made its largest single investment, totaling 250 million euros, to establish the world’s most advanced facility for its new compact and small enclosures. The highly automated manufacturing processes, in conjunction with the neighbouring distribution center, enable seamless order fulfillment, guaranteeing rapid availability of standard products and accessories.

The total investment of 250 million euros is a positive statement in terms of the regional economy and the 290 jobs at our Haiger plant. Rittal has quite consciously decided to proactively shape the future with the local people who made us what we are today.

Industry 4.0 at the new plant in Haiger

The new factory halls, with 24,000 square meters of floor space, will soon house more than 100 high-tech machines. Together they will manufacture some 9,000 AX compact and KX small enclosures daily, processing approximately 35,000 metric tons of steel annually.

Approx. 100 intelligent machines and robots, as well as the 18 autonomous transport vehicles generate 18 TB of data every day. This data is evaluated by using an Edge Datacenter by performing industrial analytics.

In order to faciltate a short time delivery, at highest quality with the most flexible product portfolio an Industry 4.0 production and an automatic high-bay warehouse with self-driving delivery robots have been implemented. All relevant data is recorded, analyzed, and used for optimization in this plant by comparing it to the results from simulation with the digital twin.
